This week has been on and off week for running. I didn’t run as much as I wanted to. The heat and the humidity have even made early morning runs almost impossible. I felt like I was drenched in sweat the second I stepped out of the house. Running anything longer than 3 miles in this climate seems almost impossible for me right now. So I opted for a lot of indoor running this week, expect for one long run on Saturday.
I’m slowly getting my grove back. After being injured for a while I really couldn’t wait to get back to my usual running schedule. I have been so much wiser about taking care of myself ever since my sciatica nerve injury. I just never want to go through anything like this again. For the first time in years I have actually started to use other equipment in the gym, besides the treadmill. I have been incorporating weights, leg press, chin dips and all the other good stuff. Why have neglected all of this for so long? I haven’t made use of the equipment at the gym ever since my 5 year old was born, because the most I had to myself was one hour before I had to head back home to watch the kids. But now that they are getting older I can actually squeeze a bit more time out for myself and the weight training really feels good. It makes my body feel so much stronger.
Anyway. Here is my Running Log for this week:
Monday: 6 miles on the treadmill. I was really happy about finishing in about 55 minutes. My leg felt really good and I had no pain!
Tuesday: No running.
Wednesday: 3.5 miles around my neighborhood. This run was one big drag. The humidity was so high, it was really hard getting any energy with this much moisture in the air. I stopped at 3.5 miles. I couldn’t even round it up to 4. I had enough.
Thursday: 6 miles back at the gym. I just need a longer run than 3.5 miles, so while it was still hot and sticky outside I went to the gym to run on the treadmill. I have a feeling this will be my second home for the entire Summer again, just like last year. I still remember my 18 and 20 Miler on the treadmill when I was training for the NYC Marathon during last Summer here in Florida. I was really looking forward to running in cooler weather in New York. The day of the marathon the temps in New York were a mild and humid 60 degrees. It was such a damper.
Friday: No running. I remember how badly I wanted to run but schedule-wise I just couldn’t make it work. So I promised myself that I will go for a 10 miler tomorrow.
Saturday: I woke up really early Saturday morning to head out the door for my 10 Miler. I was lucky. It was in the lower 80s and the humidity wasn’t too bad. I really really enjoyed this run. This has been my first long run since I got injured. I took it slow, didn’t push and just ran for the joy of running. The world is so beautiful in the early morning hours. There’s nothing like running at the crack of dawn and watching the sunrise. It fulfills you with so much hope. 10 miles for that day.
Sunday: No running. Jim was working most of the day and I promised the boys to spend the entire day at the pool, and that’s what we did!
Miles for this week: 25. 5 miles. I’m really happy how my weekly running has been improving. slowly but steady.
