One of my favorite summer treats of my childhood included Orange Creamsicles. The summer heat keeps me thinking about different homemade popsicle ideas for my kids, so they can enjoy a cool all-natural whole food treat. These creamsicles offer something new and different from the regular all-fruit variety. Organic Oranges paired with coconut milk and vanilla is such a great flavor combo. It’s refreshingly fruity and creamy at the same time. Mhhh!
Reading the list of ingredients of some store-bought popsicle brands made me really think twice about the quality of their products. The only way to provide my kids with a popsicle treat that offers, fun, great taste and healthy nutrition was to make my own popsicles. You’ll be surprised how quickly they are to prepare and inexpensive compared to store-bought varieties. I especially try to pay attention to the amount of sugar in the recipes. I cut back on the added sugar and let the flavor of the fruit shine instead of the sugar.
When I tried this orange creamsicles recipe for the first time it became an instant hit in our house.
I always try to use fresh squeezed organic orange juice, but store-bought Orange Juice work just as well. The fresh oranges provide an excellent source of antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin A and potassium. I used cow’s milk for this recipe but coconut milk works as well. I personally love them as a post run treat as well.
Here is what you need:
6 ounces Orange Juice ( I try to make this one fresh squeezed, the juice of 3 oranges will usually make 6 ounces)
1 cup cocout milk (as a non-dairy alternative I find coconut milk works best with creamsicles)
1 cup water
1/4 cup cane sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl and put mixture into popsicle makers and freeze for at least 7 hours.
I personally prefer the Nutribullet for blending fruits and vegetables. It preserves the nutrients for an extra boost, is easy to handle like 123 and super important: EASY TO CLEAN.
The popsicle molds of my choice are TOVOLO. These hip molds are BPA free, dishwasher safe and food safe. I love the fact that they are extremely durable.
