It has been a really tragic and sad week. The events in Orlando have been weighing heavily on my mind. The victims and their families are in my thoughts and prayers. As a mother and as a fellow citizen I am truly worried about the state of our country.
I really hope politicians will somehow recognize the severe urgency to change gun laws.
It is truly getting completely out of hand.
I have been back running. As I have posted 2 weeks ago, I was suffering from Sciatica nerve inflammation and I had to put my running on hold for 2 weeks. As a dedicated runner that was not an easy thing to do. Taking off running for that many days was hard mentally. As I have been improving physical therapy wise my Dr gave me permission to start running again. Slowly. Every other day. My pain is still flaring up here and there, believe it or not, more on the days when I’m not running. Icing and stretching helps tons. I know the pain might still stick around for a bit but it’s improving. 4 weeks ago I was sacred that I could maybe never run again.
Today Sunday I have joined my first Yoga session in many years. After doing some poses at home I felt the need to be guided by an instructor again and I really always enjoyed Yoga as a group of people. I have stopped Yoga for all this time not because I didn’t like because I was and still am so addicted to running. Nothing makes my body usually feel better than a nice run, but when I suffered from sciatic nerve inflammation I knew that my lack of stretching and flexibility played a huge role. So here I am back at Yoga and pretty happy about it. 🙂
Here is My Weekly Running Log Week June 13th:
Monday: Monday is usually a must run day for me, just to start the week off right, but I didn’t run today. I ran 4 miles the day before on Sunday and my Dr asked me to skip a day off running in between. Which I try to follow. More or Less. Saw my chiropractor later in the afternoon. The adjustments truly help.
Tuesday: 4 miles outside around my neighborhood. It felt so good to be able to run another 4Miler again. I was also really excited to take my new running shoes Nike Flex 2015 out for a run. They felt great! Usually I’m not good at running in lightweight shoes but they worked great. I can’t run longer distances in lightweight running shoes though. For longer runs I need more arch support – I’m such an overpronator!
Wednesday: I was suppose to not run but I just couldn’t help myself. I felt so good after yesterday’s run that I went to the gym to run 6 miles on the treadmill. The softer surface of the running belt felt great on my lower back and left calf.
Thursday: No running. Drinking lots of warm water with fresh ginger seems to to really helps relieve some of my inflammation. It was a tip I picked up from other runners online. Love the spicy taste, it feels actually really refreshing, too!
Friday: 3.58 miles outside. Hot day as usual but I thought I could handle it. Boy was I wrong. Mid run I noticed that it was actually way too hot to go for a run. I reduced my pace drastically to conserve energy but it didn’t help. At the 3.5 mile mark my body started to feel chilly and I knew this was the sign to stop immediately. It also came with no warning. Yes, I felt hot but not super hot. Amazing how overheating can creep up on you without you actually noticing it. I really thought I was okay until all of a sudden I felt chills. Not good. I stopped and headed home to cool off and hydrate. Running in Florida is amazing scenery-wise but during the Summer it is quite difficult. That’s when I really miss running in Central Park. Such a convenient course for running!
Saturday: 6 miles at the gym. The victims of the Orlando shooting were shown on CNN on one of the TV screens in front of my treadmill. I still remember how much it sucked the energy out of my run. I kept pushing through though. It’s hard to run when you feel sadness. 6 miles for today.
On my way out I picked up the schedule for Yoga classes. A class tomorrow morning, awesome. I made sure that I will be making this one.
Sunday: 1 1/2 hour of Flow Yoga. It went so much better than I though. I really loved it. I walked to and from the gym, which was 3 miles. Afterwards, when I got home my 3 boys celebrated Father’s Day with a fun assortment of yummy Donuts. Yes, even I had to have one. My first Donut in ages – chocolate with a white sugar glaze and so super fresh – I have to admit they tasted awesome!
Total mileage for this week: 20 Miles. I’m okay with that! :):)
How as your week?
